The day's story

Description: In the stories we write each day about the stage, some important moments, and how these turn into the poster we always are excited when a French rider wins the stage. Today they were un & deux with Pierre Rolland (Europcar) and Thibaut Pinot (who won an earlier stage).

Then coincidentally there was a one / two for the General Classification with Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome who are both from Great Britain. And then you can throw in that they are both on the same team (Sky Procycling).

And as long as we are talking about doubles, there were two hors cat├ęgorie climbs today. HC designates a climb that is "beyond categorization," as in the kind of mountain that keeps the riders awake at night. The term was originally used for those mountain roads where cars were not expected to be able to pass.

The poster which featured both sets of names set into two tall mountain shapes included collaboration with Kieran Francke (who worked with us in 2011) and Lindsay Schmittle. We thought the un & deux in French was a good touch along with using the double ampersands to work between 1st & 2nd along with their names. Fun and handrolling is always great to show someone new to Lead Graffiti. Then again, we did have to deal with that damaged "G" in Wiggins because we only have two of them.

Cadel Evans lost a bit of time allowing Christopher Froome and Vincenzo Nibali to move up in the standings. Another exciting day.
