The day's story

Description: In a stunning display of "digging deep" it was the most amazing day of athletic endurance we think we've seen in the Tour. Ever.

First at the summit of the hors catégorie climb of Col d'Aubisque - Tommy Voeckler.

First at the summit of the hors catégorie climb of Col du Tourmalet - Tommy Voeckler.

First at the summit of the category 1 climb of Col d'Aspin - Tommy Voeckler.

First at the summit of the category 1 climb of Col de Peyrsourde- Tommy Voeckler.

First across the finish line - Tommy Voeckler of Team Europcar.

Mon dieu!

A couple things about the poster. The mountains are created using 1 point rule separated by 6 pt leading. The hard part was getting the type wedged in its triangle without deforming the straight lines. It was Jill's idea to take the "O" and turn it into a reference to the Kind of the Mountains jersey that Voeckler will be wearing tomorrow.

Repeating the name five times was fun. We've mentioned before that we really like Tommy Voeckler (Stage 9: 2011, Stage 11: 2012). The slight problem we have is that we only have two "V"s, so it took three runs to get his name printed the five times.

It was the fifth stage win for French riders in this Tour. Nice.

It was a bit of a hectic day for us. The University of Delaware Library threw a book launch party for our most recent book entitled, The Multifaceted Mr. Morris which took up a couple of hours. So, for the first time we actually did not finish the poster on the same day as the stage. We tried, but finally got that blue run done at 12:14 am. We subtracted three hours from the daily effort toward the overall project. Tomorrow will likely push us over 300 hours.
