The day's story
Description: Another slow day except for the crosswinds that kept initiating small crashes along the entire route. It is really strange following it on TV, the group just riding along, and them wham, and they are all scattered across the road.
Just in case you were wondering, the Tour de France has a rule against the riders urinating in public. That said, it doesn't stop the camera people from filming them doing it and it doesn't much stop them from actually doing it when they need a "natural break."
Yesterday's poster was so in the center of the page. We decided to design around the outside a bit and dig into a few cases of our larger metal type. So a poster focusing on the "sides of the road" seemed like an interesting option.
Just inside 3 km from the finish, there was a serious and rather spectacular crash that left Mark Cavendish of Sky Procycling with a few rips in his jersey and a helmet pratically broken in half. We thought that deserved a bit of handrolling at the bottom.
The stage was won by André Greipel of the Lotto-Belisol Team. After being close on a couple of the early stages, he finally got his stage win.
