The whos and whys
The idea for this piece was done about a week before the start of the Tour de France 2011 when we were still in the dark about how doable the project even was. We had no idea what memorable moments would happen and if we could translate them into an interesting image.
So, we just took the main wood type we had made for the project and set 'colophon.' Hmmm. The two Os are like bike tires. Rotate the L and you essentially have a hunched over bike rider. Which letters do you make round and which oval?
Honestly, it was as simple as that sounds.
Each of the portfolios were numbered (with letters) using alternating letters in our two main typefaces, Neuland (shown in the image) and Jefferson Gothic.
We keep the "A" copy. All the other clamshell box sets are for sale. We even sell a frame we designed for holding the posters.
