6-POCKET ACCORDION : bookmaking

 

POCKETS HOLDING SMALL MYSTERY GIFTS give these books cachet and charm. Found in Hedi Kyle’s book Art of the Fold, this format uses the familiar accordion fold and adds a simple cover wrap with a tab-and-slot closure to keep the surprises hidden inside. Customize your book using hole punches, paste papers, stickers, pressed leaves, colored card stock, and more. This workshop will include two sizes to give you options for the enclosures, and a discussion of materials, and bells and whistles that can be added.

This is a no-sew-no-glue book format. Materials will be provided for the smaller practice version of this book. For the larger book (3 1/4” x 6” finished size), please bring 1 sheet of any solid color or decorative paper (such as Canson or paste paper, text weight, about 70 - 90#), trimmable to about 25 1/2” x 12 3/8”. For the cover, bring 1 sheet of cover weight stock, any texture or color (such as Canson Mi Tientes, or any 80# to 100# cover weight), trimmable to about 6” x 13”. All necessary tools will be provided. You are most welcome to bring your favorite pencil, ruler, craft knife, bone folder and cutting board, along with your camera to record your process.

Wear comfortable shoes and work clothing. Please dress for the weather: we are not air-conditioned, and in winter, much of the heat rises to the top of our 20-foot ceiling. Bring questions, your camera, and a notebook to record your process.
