UCBA 2025 Schedule
Meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of the month at Lead Graffiti unless otherwise noted.
Wednesday, January 15th
Planning for 2025 and viewing the Lead Graffiti exhibit at NAA.
Wednesday, February 19th
Caroline will lead a discussion and show & tell about collage. She will share some of her own collage work,msome interesting collage illustrations in books and a fun technique for creating unique collage paper. If YOU have done any work with collage or have books that use it creatively, please bring them to share.
At this meeting the theme for our Group Book will be determined and the size of the book. This date is the commitment deadline from those who intend to participate. This will determine the number of completed pages each person will need to bring to the meeting on Wednesday, June 19th.
Wednesday, March 19th
We will be hosted by Rebecca while we visit the University of Delaware Library’s special collections. The focus this time will be on various book structures to help us decide what we would like our collaborative book structure to be. Let Rebecca know of any other particular interests you may have in addition.
Wednesday, April 16th
Jill will be teaching us a book from “The Art of the Fold” book.
Wednesday, May 21st
The Theme & Book Structure will be decided for our collaborative book. A firm commitment to participate will be needed at this time.
Anne will demonstrate/lead us in gelli printing.
Wednesday, June 18th
Jenny will demonstrate/lead us in visual journaling and/or image transfer.
Wednesday, July 16th
Deb will lead us in making a miniature book.
Wednesday, August 20th
Gilda will lead us in a way to marbleize paper using shaving cream and alcohol inks.
Wednesday, September 17th
Our annual Beer night at Elk River Brewing Company, downtown Elkton Main Street. Hand out brown bags for the book exchange
Wednesday, October 15th
Annual Book Exchange
At the September meeting brown bag will be distributed into which the artist will place their book for exchange at the October meeting. Mark your bag with a symbol, not your Initial, so as not to select your own book at the exchange. Your book should have content - images, text, drawings or etc. No blank books. Seal the bag with staples. Use a unique mark on the bag, so you don’t pick your own. Bring the bag to the October meeting.
How the exchange works:
• All bags will be placed in the center of a table.
• Each participant will draw a number to determine the order for selecting a bag.
• Starting with # 1 a book will be chosen. The person who drew #2 will go next and so on.
• Once all the bags have been chosen, they will be opened and the book will be shared with the group in the order it was selected.
• The artist may wish to make comments on their work.
• The books will be placed on the table so all the participants to can take a closer look at them.
• You will keep the book you randomly selected, no cutthroat exchanges.
