In January 2018, the College Book Arts Association held their annual conference in Philadelphia. One of the events was an exhibition with some unusual requirements.
- The book had to be collaborative
- Its focus had to originate from within a Special Collections Department of a library
- Ben Franklin didn't hurt
- Martha Carothers, who is a CBAA member, approached Ray about collaborating with her idea for the text focusing on Ben Franklin's electric kite experiments.
Martha wrote the text; Ray contributed ink pulls for the background for the pages with text.
Both were involved with the positioning of the text against to look of the ink pulls.
You can read the bigger story and see the book in action here.
